Gentlemen, I have a father in my community (Greencastle, PA) that came to me in desperation because he knows his adopted young black son needs a black mentor. It broke my heart to not be able to tell him, “Yes! I know the perfect group!!!”
Later in the evening and for days I kept thinking, “How many things do I do that add great value to a program and support people who don’t look like my son?” It got me thinking of a movement I wanted to create called, “Young Man Rumble.”
My 30,000 foot view vision is to place Urban young men in front of men who look like them that can teach them life skills. Again, I’m thinking of a big, long term view!!! This is what a year would look like:
Meeting once every 3 weeks:

My 30,000 foot view vision is to place Urban young men in front of men who look like them that can teach them life skills. Again, I’m thinking of a big, long term view!!! This is what a year would look like:
Meeting once every 3 weeks:
- Meeting A: Life-group type setting (I have a PERFECT curriculum in mind!!! It will cause us to not spend time trying to recreate the wheel.)
- Meeting B: an outing (movie, meal, sporting event, etc…)
- Meeting C: could teach a life skill:
- How to grill
- How to fish
- How to make a bonfire
- How to change oil
- How to tie a tie
- How to look for a job
- How to budget your money
- How to cut hair
Each man involved would:
- Take ownership of overseeing three meeting styles of your choice.
- Commit to playing a supporting role in at least 3 other “Meetings” of your choice.
For example you could:
- Oversee a Tuesday in January: Meeting A
- Oversee a Friday in March: Meeting B
- Oversee a Monday in April: Meeting A
- Support a Tuesday in June: Meeting C
- Support a Monday in August: Meeting B
- Support a Friday in November: Meeting A
Not sure if the season of life you’re in right now but it falls into any of these three then let’s connect:
- Front-liners: the people leading
- Backgrounders: the people behind the scenes (admin, setting things up, etc…)
- Come-along-siders: donors, finding resources that can come along and help the movement advance.
If any of those 3 are doable to you then click the Facebook group let's continue this conversation...
